Anyone here going to Eagan next week? I think that my family is going. First time for the kids to compete in a tournament. We've been in the ATA for quite awhile now, but just aren't particularly competitive I guess. I think we'll have a lot of fun and hope to meet some new friends. It could be you....??

Hope to run into you both!! I'll be there with my wife, she'll be competeing for the first time too as a green belt. And I'll be having fun and meeting new people myself!! I think there a few from our club going.
JodanneB; I hope to get to meet you and your husband at the tournament this weekend. I'm afraid I won't be competing though, so I won't be in your husbands ring after all. It's just the kids this time. (I'm trying to save up to get a new set of BMEs.)
Mr. Wall; I'm looking forward to seeing you and your wife this weekend. Master Edel will be there Friday and he said maybe Saturday morning. We have 8 (I think) going from our school. It should be a good time and maybe an opportunity for students from our schools to get to know one another better.

Well I'll be on the look out for all Nevada people!! 8, that's a great representation of your club. I'm not sure there will be that many from here...... a couple of the regulars to tourneys can't make it this time.
I'll be competing Fri. night so I'm sure I'll see Master Edel then. I understand the saving money part, I decided not to compete with weapons for that same reason, also we debated having the kids do Tiny Tigers.... but it all adds up to fast...
But if you haven't been to Eagan...it is an excellent tournament!!! Last year was a great time!

Are you aware of the family discount on the tourney fees? Check with your instructor on this one...I can't remember what it was after the first two family members--$5 or $10 per person on Forms/Spar and same for Weapons.
Just got home--missed seeing you Mr Byrd. Had an awesome time. Judged my first TT ring alone and it went well. Judged a few rings with Mr. Gleisner as center and learned more there, too. Competition in the women's 30's 1BD was great. Amazing gals I'm with!
PS Anyone get the total on competitors--I had to leave before bow-out.
Sorry I didn't get to meet you either ma'am. I kept an eye out for any women that had J. B...... on their uniforms (thought I'd spotted you once and then found that J. Bushey was a Jena.) We left early on Saturday as well. I ended up not competing after all. You just about had me talked into it! In the end I decided it would be my luck that the 3 of us would end up competing all at the same time and my wife would have to decide who to go support and take pix of. So I decided that the most important thing for me to do was to be DAD. We took pictures and shot video and the kids competed.
Both kids got a 3rd place in 2 very tough rings! Garrett in forms and Adrienne in sparring. I'm very proud of them. Adrienne thinks she would like to compete again but Garrett thinks maybe that once was enough for him. He would however like to attend some chevron clinics and be able to judge. (Is there an age level for that? He is almost 14.)
All in all a wonderful weekend. I heard between 500 and 600 competitors but did not hear anything official.

According to current rules...you must be a 1 degree decided for all judging levels 1 and 2. Level 1 chevron must be 12, level 2 must be 14 and level 3 must be 16. Individual school owners may have additional requirements. Since a 12 year old can't judge anyone older than 11, the only divisions he/she could judge would be 7 and under and 8-10; that said, in our school we require minimum age for level 1 at 14. We do however coach the kids on score keeping and assisting. We require you scorekeep/timekeep for at least 6 rings before being granted permission to test for level 1.
Tournamnet count at bow out was 625 competitors.
Congrats to your kids. I hope they had a good time and a pleasant experience.
Thanks so much for the info. My son is a 1BD and he will turn 14 this summer so he will certainly be glad to know this.
I believe I saw you this weekend at the introduction of distinguished guests at the opening on Saturday. I didn't get to meet you personally but maybe another time. I believe they mentioned that you are hosting a charity event of some sort. I didn't get all the particulars though. This might be a good place to get in a

It was a great time!! I had so much fun watching and competing. I didn't get to judge, I'm still waiting for my chevron to come, maybe next time!
Mr. Byrd, It was great of you to be a "Dad" and just be there for your kids. It is hard at tournaments sometimes to do that when rings are all over the place. Make sure to encourage them to keep up with competing, just trying makes you a winner!! Yes, there are some amazing competitors out there but we can't let that stop us from giving it our all!! It's an experience that we won't get anywhere else!
Hope to see you guys again soon in an upcoming tourney!!
The Champlin (slightly northwest of the cities) is participating in the Kicks F.A.R. for NAAR (National Alliance for Autism Research) in an inaugural event to support autism research. Our event is planned for June 25th. We will have several different events, kids breaking boards, public breaking boards, and instructors breaking boards. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to NAAR. Mr. Beyer made a donation on behalf of the Bismarck school and challenged all region 114 schools to meet or beat his donation of $25. I will be mailing a letter to all reion 114 schools with this challenge. In the meantime, you can learn more by visiting http://www.autismwalk.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=1050&team_id=8230 or link there through www.ATAChamplin.com . We are in the beginning stages as we have been promoting the Eagan tournament up til now. Everyone is welcome to come join in the fun. I have submitted an event to be posted on this site as well.
Glad I was able to answer your question for your son.
Excellent. My wife's cousin lives in Champlin. Maybe that would give us a good excuse to go visit and get to take in a TKD event as well. Better check my calendar...
